Immigration Check-In for Employees Scholars and Visitors
This immigration check-in is for UChicago foreign national employees, scholars, or visitors that are new to the J-1, H-1B, TN, or E-3 statuses.
Completing your immigration check-in is a crucial step to ensure your U.S. entry information has been successfully processed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This check-in should be completed no more than 5 calendar days of your arrival in the U.S.
For J-1 visa holders, this process also allows OIA to validate your immigration record in the SEVIS system, confirming your compliance with federal regulations. This check-in helps maintain your J-1 status in the U.S., prevents potential issues with your immigration record, and ensures you can fully engage in your academic or professional activities without disruption.
