New SEVP Portal for Reporting Post-Completion OPT

On March 23, 2018, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) launched the SEVP Portal. The portal is a tool that allows F-1 students on approved post-completion optional practical training (OPT) to report changes to their home address, telephone number and employer information. The portal is accessible from both your mobile device and computer.

STEM Students: Students on STEM OPT will only be eligible to use the portal to report changes to their home address and telephone number. Students on STEM OPT cannot add, edit or delete employers via the portal. STEM employer updates must be submitted to OIA via the OPT update form, with an updated I-983.

Instructions on how to create your portal account are being sent to you by e-mail (to your Uchicago e-mail address stored in SEVIS) from do-not-reply.sevp@ice.dhs.gov. If you have not received a message from SEVP within 1 week, check your spam or junk mail folder. If you still do not see it, contact your International Student Advisor to have the email sent again.

The SEVP Portal will allow you to:

  • View details about your post-completion or STEM OPT.
  • Report changes to your address, telephone and employer information.
  • View and update data on all your employers in one place.

Any data updates you make in the portal will be sent directly to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System.

SEVP has created an SEVP Portal Help section on Study in the States with:

NOTE: While highly encouraged by SEVP, use of the portal is voluntary. You may still choose to report your updated address, phone number and employer information through our OPT Update form (however, this is not required for those on post-completion OPT; only those on the STEM extension are still required to use the OPT update form to report employment-related changes).

If you have any questions about the portal or need assistance, call the SEVP Response Center at 703-603-3400.
