Recent OPT STEM Changes and OIA Impact

You may have seen the recent news about the final STEM ruling, which was released in the federal registrar March 10, 2016.  As the notice indicates, the final STEM rule is expected to go into effect on May 10, 2016.

OIA continues to closely monitor STEM news and updates and we will continue to provide information as more guidance from USCIS becomes available.  We are excited to see these positive changes take place.

Once USCIS communicates additional details on STEM processing to schools and all relevant forms become available, we will be able to provide updated STEM OPT application instructions and specific guidance on individual cases.  Until that time, no changes are being made to the UChicago STEM application processes.

Updates about the new STEM rule will be published in the OIA News section of the website, OIA Facebook page, and information STEM OPT page as they become available.  You can check these resources to see if there are any new developments.  Please contact your OIA adviser if you have additional questions.
