OIA has become aware of the reciprocal suspension of visa issuance between the U.S. at Turkey. At this time, U.S. embassies will not be issuing new entry visas to Turkish citizens. It is not known whether this suspension is permanent or temporary.
The available information indicates that the suspension will impact new visa applicants only. So far, there has been no mention of cancelling or revoking the U.S. visas of Turkish citizens that have already been issued or barring travel in between the countries. According to a statement by the Turkish Ambassador, citizens of Turkey may still be able to apply for a U.S. visa in a third party country (a country besides Turkey). We will continue to monitor the situation and provide more information if it becomes available.
If you have any upcoming international travel plans in between the U.S. and Turkey or have questions about your situation, we encourage you to contact your OIA adviser to discuss them. If your immigration record is sponsored by an outside entity, such as an employer, parent’s employer, or Fulbright, please also contact your immigration sponsor for guidance.
